The textile/garments ?industry dominates the Bangladesh industrial landscape.?Many nnew jobs – mostly for women – have been created by the country’s dynamic private ready-made garment industry, which grew at double-digit rates through most of the 1990s.?By the late 1990s, about 1.5 million people, mostly women, were employed in the garments sector as well as Leather products specially Footwear (Shoe manufacturing unit).?By 2013, about 4 million people, mostly women, worked in Bangladesh’s $19 billion-a-year industry, export-oriented ready-made garment (RMG) industry. Bangladesh is second only to China, the world’s second-largest apparel exporter of western brands. Sixty percent of the export contracts of western brands are with European buyers and about forty percent with American buyers.Only 5% of textile factories are owned by foreign investors, with most of the production being controlled by local investors.

Other industries which have shown very strong growth include the pharmaceutical industry,?shipbuilding industry,?information technology,?leather industry,?steel industry,?electronics industry?and light engineering industry.
